Get Ready, Set, GO!

We like to hike.  Together. Actually, we find that we are happiest hiking.   It's a bit of a passion that fuels our passion.  I also love to blog so it seemed like a natural step to create a blog just with our hiking stuff.   Currently, we have a ranch blog and another blog over at WordPress that I started for travel and hiking, but I don't like the WordPress platform.  I am a Blogger girl through an through.  Love the simplicity, love the idea of a free platform.  What I don't like is the first post on a new blog.  What to say?

My plan is to slowly bring over the hiking posts embedded in my other blogs to this site, as well as adding current hikes.

Right now we are training at our wet, Pacific North-coast ranch for a 3 week desert walk on the PCT starting after Easter.  The cattle, pigs, horses and donkeys on the place aren't quite sure what to think of the walking umbrellas.  Most of them run for the woods, but Macho is a brave guy.
Yesterday we hiked in a deluge of rain and high wind gusts and found that the GoLite umbrella is awesome.  It held up to what mother nature dished out and kept our head and shoulders very dry.  Arms got wet, and with the wind, our torso got a bit wet too.   We've used 2 small cord lock bungees to connect the umbrellas to our shoulder straps.  We attached a small piece of closed cell foam with a small bungee to the handle so the bungee holds the umbrella better.
The foam has to be loose enough to slide over the mechanism for unfurling the umbrella.  It was easy and it works!

Okay, first post done.  It may not be amazing, but it is a start and just like hiking, everything flows better after you hit the trail.
