The trailhead for Elizabeth Lake is at the back of the Tuolumne Meadows Campground. Kind of a funny spot, but perfect if you are in the camp. It's about 2.3 miles to the lake and just shy of 1000 feet elevation gain. Most of the climb is in the first mile or so.
We hit the trail by 9 AM and see only one couple with a baby on their back, but on our return we pass hoards of people sweating their way up the climb. So hike early, we had the lake all to ourselves. Well, we did share it with the mosquitos and a lot of jumping fish.
Beautiful place. There is a path all the way around the lake.
