AZT/ Passages 4 thru 7

Leaving Patagonia you walk out of town without any fanfare and within a few strides you are out in open country.  The climb is steady and slow.  Looking back you never lose sight of the town and looking forward you don't lose sight of Mount Wrightson,   the next sky island to cross.

Then up and up and across and around creeks and into conifers.  Then down again and through a walking history tour along an old aqueduct with interpretative signs and relics from years gone by.

A pretty land.  We watch it stretch out and unusual rock formations grow.  Kentucky Camp and its history a highlight.

Streams turn into seeps and views turn into canyons and then it stretches out broad again and cactus take center stage with the sun a spotlight.

These passages were easier than the first three, for us. Steep sections were interspersed with easy walking. The trail made sense in the way it moved across the land, except for the last bit that was obviously designed for bikes. We enjoyed it and were encouraged to think about the passage of time and history.

Here's a five minute slideshow of our hike of these passages.
